So this blog has nothing to do with my pups because they weren't technically allowed to participate. But I just HAD to blog about it because it's a pretty big deal...well, for me anyway!
My friend Amanda and I (and my parents) have done the Race for the Cure for several years now, but we've always just walked at a leisurely pace. For the last couple of years, we've said we were going to run it, but it never really happened. So this year we made a pact to actually RUN the race. Novel idea, right?
So we both started training (and I use that term loosely) back in August. Run a quarter of a mile, walk a quarter of a mile. It was a slow start...some might call it Baby Steps (don't steal that...it's our team name for next year!). We were both doing really well with a few minor bumps in the road (mine mostly the last 2 weeks), but we were bound and determined to do it! For your enjoyment...
Here we are at the beginning of the race...you can already see my mom passing us with her power walking!
But we could only walk at the beginning until the crowd started to thin (yes, my mom's still ahead of us!).
Ok, so we were slightly disappointed that we didn't run the whole race, but we did run 2/3 of it!
Stretching in the shade waiting for my parents who finished a mere 5 minutes behind us (and they walked the entire time!!!!).
I guess there's always next year!...or the Trail of Lights 5K. We can do it, Mandy!
Good job ladies! There is no shame in walking too, at least you got out there for a cause!
